When it's worth doing
- Before a big clean-up. Deleting contractors takes their document history with it and can't be undone. Take a copy first.
- Before cancelling. Export while you still have access, not after.
- Because it's yours. An annual copy in your own storage is cheap insurance against every kind of surprise, including ours.
Export versus report
Different jobs. A compliance report is a formatted document answering a question for a reader. A data export is your records, in bulk, for you.
Don't send a data export to an owner who asked whether their subs are covered — it's the wrong shape and contains far more than they asked for.
Note
Cancelling a subscription doesn't wipe your data — see Cancel your subscription. Exporting first is still the right habit.
