Edit or delete a contractor

In this article: Change a contractor's details, and what happens to their documents when you delete them.

Editing details

Open the contractor and click the name or any field in the left-hand column to edit it in place. Changing an email address changes where future requests and reminders go; links already sent keep working to the old address.

For a bigger change, Edit Contractor Details opens the full form.

Deleting

  1. Open the contractor

Open the contractor and scroll to the bottom of the left-hand column.

  2. Click Delete

Click Delete. A confirmation asks you to be sure.

  3. Confirm

Confirm. The contractor and everything filed against them is removed.

Careful

Deleting takes the certificates, W-9s, licenses and request history with it, and it cannot be undone. If the point is to get back under your contractor limit, delete contractors you genuinely no longer work with — not ones you might work with again next season, whose document history you'd have to rebuild from scratch.

Keeping a record instead

If you want the history but not the clutter, leave the contractor in place. A contractor you've stopped using still counts toward your plan's limit, but their documents stay searchable and their Activity tab still answers "were they covered when they worked for us in March?" — which is the question that actually comes up after an incident.

Before deleting anyone in bulk, take a copy: Export your organization's data.
