Attach a license to a contractor

In this article: Link a verified state record so its status and expiry are tracked from then on.

Finding a licence tells you something today. Attaching it means you keep being told — the status and expiry are tracked from then on, and the expiry joins your alert schedule.

From License Search

Search, find the record, and attach it to the contractor. If they're not on your roster yet, attaching creates the contractor record for you — which makes License Search a reasonable way to onboard someone you've just been handed.

From the contractor

Open the contractor, go to the Licenses tab and click Search License. Same search, already pointed at the right contractor. This is usually the way round you want.

What attaching gets you

  • The licence status as the state reports it, refreshed with each daily import.
  • The expiry date, tracked and alerted like any other deadline.
  • A hand in the contractor's compliance status — one expired licence is enough to make them Non-Compliant.

Note

A contractor can hold several licences — a general registration plus trade licences, or licences in more than one state. Attach all of them; each is tracked separately.

Removing one

Attached the wrong record? Remove it from the Licenses tab and attach the right one. Removing a licence doesn't touch the state's data — it just stops us tracking that record against this contractor.
