Which states we verify, and how often

We import license data directly from twelve state databases, on each state's own publishing schedule — daily for most of them. This is the part no certificate can tell you: a contractor's insurance can be immaculate while their license was suspended in March.

How current the data is

What you see is what the state published in its most recent file. Most states are imported daily, so a status that changed this morning may not appear until tomorrow's import. Virginia posts its lists weekly, and Arizona and Ohio publish no download we can fetch, so their files are loaded by hand — the table above says which is which.

For most purposes that's fine: licenses are suspended and reinstated over weeks, not hours. If you need certainty on a specific licence on a specific day, check the state's own portal.

What we don't cover

• The other 38 states. You can still track those licenses — enter them manually and their expiry is tracked and alerted like anything else. What you don't get is the state's live status.
• Cities and counties. Local business licenses aren't in state databases. Track those as documents.
• New York. Licensing there is municipal rather than statewide, so there is no single database to import. We publish a requirement guide for it, which is educational content — we do not verify New York licenses.

What happens next
